Youth will develop valuable life skills through healthy relationships with positive adult role models. .
We will partner with local schools to identify at-risk students and provide them with tutors or other resources in an effort to support academic success and increase college readiness. We will also help youth and their parents learn how to navigate the college application process. Youth in our mentoring program will practice test taking for entrance exams and participate in college tours that offer exposure to admissions and financial aid processes.
We will provide career preparation training that covers subjects such as resume writing, interviewing, budgeting and credit management as well as general financial literacy and entrepreneurship. Youth will visit local companies and develop relationships with adult professionals, strengthening the connection between the under-served communities and the business sector. Youth will participate in workshops, job-shadowing opportunities and internships designed to give them hands-on experience necessary for economic empowerment.
We will guide youth through a process of exploring self-identity, ethnic identity, racial inequality and injustice as well as culture, history and achievements. We believe that equipping young people with greater cultural and social awareness is critical to them becoming informed, full participants in the socioeconomic and political forces that will shape their futures.
Youth will engage in meaningful service opportunities to reinforce the importance of becoming productive, contributing citizens and emerging leaders in their communities.
